strength training in menopause
STRENGTH & CONFIDENCE DURING MENOPAUSE
My strength training for menopausal and peri-menopausal women is designed specifically around what your body needs during and after menopause.
strength training in menopause & midlife
gain strength, vitality and confidence
- Your body isn’t responding or shifting anything from the cardio you’ve relied on.
- You’re constantly tired and you can’t get a straight answer as to why and what to do.
- You know strength training will help, but you need support for the body you have now.
Hellen came to me before Covid, back in 2019…

Hello, I’m Steve…
“There’s a lot of good understanding now around weight training for women going through perimenopause, menopause and beyond. It used to be cardio, all the time. Understanding that strength is what protects your muscle, your bones and your energy as your body changes.”

meet Hellen
Hellen’s Strength Training Through Menopause

- Aged 52, married with three children
- At 5 foot, 1 inches and touching nearly 14 stone
- Her weight had yo-yo’d for years
“Steve has given me the confidence to try things I never thought I could, reminding me that if I believe I can, I will.”
When Hellen messaged me, she was nearly 50, hiding under baggy clothes and out of breath after a gentle warm-up. Physically and mentally, Hellen is a different person to the one who walked in that first day. That’s what consistent strength training in midlife actually does to a body, over time from twice a week training. Hellen doesn’t look her age and all these years later, continues to train with me.
how to achieve strength training in menopause
personalised training programme
Sessions are built around strength work, not punishing cardio, because that’s what actually serves you at this stage. Everything we do is entirely around your body and your goals.
Two 60 minute training sessions per week
We start with a full consultation covering body composition, body fat and your current baseline, then train twice a week as a rough guide, reviewing and adjusting your targets every three to four months so the plan keeps working as your body does. All sessions are held in my private, fully air-conditioned gym in Mortimer Common, Reading.
Nutrition accountability & education
You will learn how to track the metrics that matter so that you take responsibility.
Two sessions per week: Two sessions a week is typically where you’ll feel the shift, built around proper strength work rather than endless cardio.
A hard reset: We track the data that matters so you can see, in black and white, what’s changing, and every session gives you a hard reset before you go back into whatever’s waiting for you at home or at work.

This is for…
- Women in perimenopause, menopause or postmenopause.
- Women who are active or inactive
- Anyone who wants to find a smarter way to train for where they are now, not 20 years ago.

FAQ
Why is strength training important during menopause?
Because your body starts losing muscle and bone density faster during this stage, and cardio alone doesn’t protect against that. Strength training does. It’s the difference between managing menopause and actually staying strong through it, which is exactly what changed things for Helen.
What type of strength training is best for menopause?
Proper resistance work, building up gradually and consistently, rather than random classes or endless cardio machines. It needs to be structured around your body specifically, your baseline, your goals, your energy levels, not a one-size-fits-all circuit.
Can strength training help with menopause weight gain?
Yes. Muscle burns more than fat does even at rest, so building strength helps your body manage weight more easily through a stage when it naturally gets harder to. It’s not about eating less. It’s about giving your body a reason to hold onto muscle instead of losing it.
Can personal training help with work-related stress specifically?
Yes. I’m not a therapist, and I won’t pretend to be one, but counselling clients through what’s going on happens a lot in my sessions. It isn’t part of the job description, but life experience means clients get a fair bit more than just a workout for their time with me.
Is it too late to start strength training in menopause?
No. Whatever stage you’re at, perimenopause, menopause, or well past it, your body responds to strength work. Helen was already in her late forties when she started and she’s stronger and more toned now than she was then.
